Archaeology resources

The resources listed below are of relevance to archaeologists and people working in similar fields. Some are created by me, others are from across the web. If anything doesn’t work as expected (eg broken link), do let me know!

Photogrammetry scale: 5 cm

This scale was created by me for close-range photogrammetry and used in my dissertation. The markers are automatically detected by Agisoft Metashape Pro and are distanced by exactly 5 cm (0.05 m). It is scaled to work with standard A4 printing.

Photogrammetry scale: 10 cm

This scale was created by me for close-range photogrammetry and used in my dissertation. The markers are automatically detected by Agisoft Metashape Pro and are distanced by exactly 10 cm (0.. It is scaled to work with standard A4 printing.

Photogrametry scale: turntable

The following scale is optimised for turntable work (but the two others can also be used, depending on the situation). It was created by Alex Elvis Badillo based on those used by Porter et al. 2016. It requires specialised printing facilities and right size turntable, but is potentially more accurate than the scales made by me.

R Archaeological Science Packages

The following link lists tons of R packages available through CRAN or GitHub relevant for archaeology, as well as publications with useful R code. It was compiled by Ben Marwick and others.

Lithics 3D

The following R package is still under development but has several useful functions for analysis of 3D models of lithic artefacts such as identification of negative flake scars. It was created by Cornel M. Pop.

Artifact-3D & GeoMorph

The following softwares were developed by the Computational Archaeology Lab at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and are a fast, efficient, and user-friendly software for the analysis of 3D models of artefacts. The first focuses on linear measurements whereas the second is developed for geometric morphometrics. Both require Windows.
